How to Make Lilacs Last Longer in the Vase

Local lilac is in full swing in late April and early May!  These fleeting nostalgic blooms are in high demand with customers but can be a real headache for florists.  They seem to wilt and shatter on a whim.
Here are some quick tips for making lilacs last longer:
  • Keep stems in deep water. Fill buckets ¾ full for storing lilac bunches.
  • Always put a fresh cut on stems when processing and designing.
  • During processing, use QuickDip to ensure hydration and remove all foliage.
  • During designing, peel the bark off the bottom two inches of the stem.
  • Be aware of ethylene.  Lilac is extremely sensitive and will shatter if exposed.
  • Do not store lilac for more than 5 days before using in designs.
