Local lilac is in full swing in late April and early May! These fleeting nostalgic blooms are in high demand with customers but can be a real headache for florists. They seem to wilt and shatter on a whim.
Here are some quick tips for making lilacs last longer:
- Keep stems in deep water. Fill buckets ¾ full for storing lilac bunches.
- Always put a fresh cut on stems when processing and designing.
- During processing, use QuickDip to ensure hydration and remove all foliage.
- During designing, peel the bark off the bottom two inches of the stem.
- Be aware of ethylene. Lilac is extremely sensitive and will shatter if exposed.
- Do not store lilac for more than 5 days before using in designs.
